The ARGO, the most versatile off-road vehicle in the world!

Ontario Drive & Gear (ODG), the manufacturers of the world’s number one amphibious ATV, the ARGO, have been named as part of a consortium competing to perform R&D studies and prototypes related to lunar rovers for the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). Chosen for its extensive expertise in building all terrain vehicles that function in some of Earth’s toughest conditions, Ontario Drive & Gear’s Special Projects Division will have the challenging task of designing a vehicle that could operate on the surface of the moon.

Special Projects Division

The result of over 40 years of specialized engineering projects, ODG’s Special Projects Division offers flexible engineering solutions for companies that require a customizable off road vehicle platform that can perform under the most extreme conditions. Having already supplied customized support vehicles for landmine detection, robotic / autonomous platforms for unmanned border patrol and many others, ODG’s Special Projects Division has the unique experience necessary to launch a project unlike any other, the lunar rover.

While the process involves plenty of development stages and several competitors, ODG’s ARGO has the added advantage of already serving on sites all over the world where lunar terrain is simulated. Known for its ruggedness and versatility, ODG’s famed ARGO is used in commercial applications ranging from utilities and natural resources to the public sector to agriculture and forestry to search and rescue. With such a diverse list of commercial credentials it is no surprise that ODG has been called on to design a vehicle capable of performing on the toughest environment known to man.

The Future

While the schedule doesn’t call for the first NASA mission to the moon to launch until 2020, ODG hopes that this ample time frame will allow it to hone and perfect numerous prototypes so that when the big day does come, they will be 100% ready.  Without a doubt, the users of the company’s flagship vehicle, the all-season, amphibious ARGO will have the opportunity to boast that the ARGO is capable of going anywhere, even the moon!
